The peculiarity of “good” design is to be able to make the difference with few
calibrated “touches”. It's Float's case, suspended or ceiling lamp produced by
Artemide, designed by James Irvine in 2000. At a first glance it's a beautiful lamp
characterized by simple and polished lines, elegant and minimalist; but then there's
the master touch. Float has two light beams: a direct one from the lower end (with a
opaline methacrylate diffuser) and an indirect one from the upper end (diffuser in
transparent polycarbonate); the ace in the hole is the possibility to mount a coloured
filter (blue or topaz) to the indirect light emission: a simple gesture and the room's
atmosphere changes completely. This possibility is available only on Float circolare
and Float lineare monotubo versions; there are in fact three versions of Float both for
the suspended model (circolare, lineare monotubo and lineare bitubo) and for the
ceiling model; the latter has the possibility to mount coloured filters too. The
structure is for all versions made in painted aluminium.
